R. Carlos Nakai and Hawaiian slack key guitarist, Keola Beamer team up for a surprisingly perfect union between two cultures. Beamer’s traditional vocals and sparkling slack key guitar accompaniment flow easily with Nakai’s flute. The Hawaiian lyrics are translated in the liner notes along with an extensive history of each song and the beliefs of the Hawaiian people. There are percussion instruments scattered throughout the recording but the overall feeling is mournful, haunting and full of the openness of the Hawaiian landscape. A collaboration that works on many different levels.
