Peter Kater: How the West Was Lost

The original music for the documentary seen on The Discovery Channel chronicling 50 years of the Native American experience. This stunning project by Kater is in many ways a good introduction to the Native American music experience. The program included 6 1/2 hours of music. Kater's sweeping piano and synthesizer compositions lay a subtle framework for the flute melodies of Nakai and the White Oak Singers moving vocals. Each of the 23 cuts on the album flows gracefully from one to the other as the sorrow and strength of all indigenous peoples of the North American continent is revealed in this moving documentary.
